Scientific Context

The Crab Nebula (M1) is a supernova remnant located in the constellation Taurus. It is the result of a supernova explosion that was observed by Chinese astronomers in 1054 AD. At the center of the nebula lies a pulsar - a rapidly rotating neutron star that spins 30 times per second.

This RGB image was captured using a QuadBand filter, which combines multiple emission lines into broadband-like channels, allowing for efficient capture of both continuum and emission line data in a single exposure series.
